Ed Garnes Appears In AOL Patch 3 Part Video Series On Where Did Our Love Go

When Edward Garnes joined Spelman as an adjunct professor of public speaking in August of 2010, he purposely requested a smart classroom to show videos on YouTube and to have access to the Internet. Professor Garnes regularly has his students view YouTube videos during class. Nine videos are listed on his syllabus, which includes group assignments like discussing social media’s effects on ethics and free speech.

“Social media is an effective tool in the classroom because often there are concepts that can be shown better than described,” said Jessica Romeus, C’2014. “When professor Garnes wanted to describe the speaking styles of those such as Pearl Cleage and Dr. Cornel West, rather than attempting to describe them, he found it more beneficial to show us via YouTube so that we could form opinions for ourselves.”
