I cowered at the revelation that our soul brother number one, musical architect Don Cornelius, whose funky good time was always buoyed by a distinguished gentleman aesthetic, had taken his own life. Not by a pill popping escapade gone woefully astray, but rather a volatile projectile to the dome. This was personal. Jon Goode Theresa Davis Star In Wish You Were Here

Sadly, poetry events have become trite try outs for a one way ticket to fame.  But when an event features modern day griot Jon Goode, a blue collar poet whose corner store stories would make Amiri Baraka smile, you know there will be some truth tellin’ going on.  And with cultural warriors Theresa Davis (a fiery revolutionary poet) and her mother legend/activist Alice Lovelace (the godmother of From Afros To Shelltoes) riding shot gun, history is sho nuff in the making.  Get all the info below.  Tell em Ed sent ya!!

Wish You Were Here, is a poetry and performance show featuring Theresa Davis (Slam Poet), Jon Goode (HBO Def Poetry, BET Lyric Cafe, CNN Black in America, Nick@Nite) and Special Guests;Alice Lovelace (Lead organizer for the US Social Forum, Godmother of Spoken Word in Atlanta), HBO Def Poetry & BET Lyric Cafe’s Amir Sulaiman; HBO Def Poetry & BET Lyric Cafe’s Malik Salaam; HBO Def Poetry’s Dana Gilmore; Slam Poet AP. The show will take place on January the 9th @ 7stages main stage between the hours of 8pm and 10pm. Wish You Were Here will cover a variety of themes ranging from politics to love, from war to peace and all points in between. The emotions evoked through the work presented will run the gamut. The hope is to through words take the audience on an experience through the lives of the artists and since we are more similar than we know also take them on a journey through their own lives.
