PHOTOJOURNALIST SHANNON MCCOLLUM DEBUTS DOCUMENTARY ON RAP GROUP DEAD PREZ AT INTERNATIONAL BLACK DOCUFEST

Critically acclaimed photojournalist Shannon McCollum debuts his documentary, Behind the Scenes with dead prez, at The Hammond House Museum as part of the International Black Docufest this Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 7PM to 9PM. Produced by McCollum’s production company, Same Camera Different Eye, Behind the Scenes offers a glimpse of life on the road with the prolific and sometimes controversial rap group, dead prez.

Coined the Hip-Hop Gordon Parks, McCollum is excited to expand into a new medium. “It is an honor to have my documentary featured in the festival.  I am always looking for creative ways to incorporate photographs into different mediums. Film making and documentaries specifically, is an obvious choice for my expansion and it’s great to have a platform to share my work” says McCollum.

The International Black Docufest opening night festivities will begin with an opening night reception, Thursday, September 17, 2009, that includes documentary screenings, photography exhibitions, artist’s spotlights, award recognitions and refreshments. Entry is free but those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP at www.internationalblackdocufest.com.

“Traveling with dead prez has allowed me to see the world and develop a close friendship with some of the greatest messengers of the 21^st century. They have a mission, a drive and a work ethic that is to be admired.  I wanted to share my experiences traveling with dead prez with the rest of the world.” says, McCollum.
