Public Service Announcement to Bloods, Crips, Disciples, Latin Kings, Locs, Vatos and all other brotherhoods and sisterhoods…but this is mostly for the brothers…

As an artist and educator, I am blessed with the opportunity to engage our youth in creatively expressing the connection between identity and reality. Using math, poetry and theater to invoke conversation, I’ve discovered many hidden passions and gifts. Dig this, if the hustler in the crew used his money to fund the flyest dude’s fashion consultant career, the artist homie’s gallery shows, MC Bang Beezy’s rap career and circulate that money to control the hood in a positive way, we would all be in a better position. Instead, grammas, unaffiliated neighbors and kids coming home from school, live in fear of what self-hate, side snitchin’ and self sabotage brings to the hood. What happened to gangs that protected the community from police brutality and violence from other hoods?

Afrika Bambaataa told us a long time ago they want us to kill ourselves. Doesn’t the C in Crip stand for community and the B in Blood stand for brotherhood? So what are we doin brothers? Don’t get me wrong there are folks out there holdin’ it down and livin’ to survive.  Plus as a non gang member I can only go but so far. Trust me I don’t want any special visits to da crib cuz somebody thought I stepped outta line. This is coming from a place of love brothers.  But can’t we use the major influence for

something positive…like lockin’ down the security industry or something?  All I’m sayin’ is unnecessary violence brings unnecessary grief and extra police attention…and nobody with a hint of color in their skin needs that…shout out to rah rah…rip story
